All of these things only work in your mind. As B.F. Skinner called it, “superstitious behavior”. Believing in something being the cause, when the true cause is something else. In other words, you think that diet is working, or that ultra-high rep, fast passed workout is working. When in reality what happened is that you made some changes in your life. Your mind said, it’s time to get serious and fix my health. It’s your mind set that made the change. Like they yelled at me in the military, “Get your mind right!”
The truth is, make any changes in your diet and exercise, and your weight and life will change. But is what you changed sustainable for LONG periods of time? Can you eat gluten free for the rest of your life? Will you attend those Weight Watchers meetings the rest of your life? Will you do your bootcamp or Zumba at home the rest of your life? If these programs get you started, then you have taken the first big step in health and fitness. You changed your mindset. You made the decision to be better. So you got up and started making changes. After a few weeks of whatever you decided to do, you feel better and there may ever be some small positive changes. But now everything stops. So you lower your calories some more and workout even harder. But things are getting worse and you are getting frustrated. What to do?
Go back to your mindset. You decided to get a healthier lifestyle, learn how to do it right, for you. Learn how your body really does work. Hire a qualified trainer, and begin healthy changes that you can sustain for a lifetime. The body hasn’t changed for over 50,000 years…but our thinking has. Just because we can think it and invent new ways, does not mean it’s good for our bodies or health. Learn what works for you. Learn what you can do for the rest of your life. It is your life, and after all, that’s not a fad.
