We all know that we should have a mentor to help us learn and be successful, at anything. But that is not always possible. What I tell people to do, is find someone that is or has been successful at what you want, then copy them. When you learn what they’ve done, and you’re good at it, make it your own. Don’t try to re-invent the wheel. It’s like I tell new trainers, do what I do. When you are good at it, then make changes that fit you and your personality and goals. Sometimes when you have an old car, all it needs is washing and a little wax.
- Do you really get up in the morning?
When you do get up, do you just lay around and wish you could go back to bed? Do you just hit the snooze a few times? Or do you get up, get your coffee, catch up on daily news, check e-mails, be prepared for the day? That’s what I do. Don’t start your day, a fresh brand new day, by not wanting to. You have already failed.
- Are you afraid of success or failure or both?
Or as one of my favorite songs says, Live Like Your Dying! We tend to live like everything will kill us. It won’t. You have nothing to lose, so live that way. You will try more things, you will try harder and you may even take chances. That’s when you add new things to your life. No matter what others say or think…do things out of your comfort zone. You will see success then.
- What easy thing are you doing too often and what hard things are you never doing?
“I like to do the things that cause success. I don’t spend a lot of time doing my favorite activities.” Michael Dell, CEO Dell Computers
If you work on the tough things that you keep putting off doing, they will get done and the easy things really will take care of themselves.
- Don’t spend money on things you don’t really need!
Successful people do not waste money. Don’t waste yours on fad diets, supplements and exercise 5 minute a day programs. Invest in yourself wisely.
The bottom line here is that if you want to succeed at anything, you must first find value in your own life. You must value and care about yourself, more than anyone else does. When you do, your career goes better, your relationships get better and your health and fitness improve.
